Everything Will Be OK

The Four Words That Changed My Life & Ended Up at Chelsea Flower Show

The day I got the maths wrong

It was 2020, mid pandemic. I was sitting at the kitchen table with my eldest, attempting to homeschool while simultaneously running a business. He looked over at my working out and said: "Mum. That's wrong."

He was right. I was getting primary school maths wrong.

I laughed about it then. But underneath the laugh was something heavier. The relentless juggle of homeschooling and running Burnt Peach, the constant low-level anxiety, the creeping feeling that I was getting everything wrong. Not just the maths.

Sound familiar?

Four words. And my new mantra.

I'd never tried meditation before lockdown. Never used mantras. Honestly, I would have rolled my eyes at the idea a year earlier.

But somewhere in the middle of that strange, relentless time, I started repeating four words to myself whenever the dark cloud settled in.

Everything will be ok.

Not a promise. Not a guarantee. More like a quiet, steady anchor when everything else felt like a bit much. I got into meditation. These four words stuck.

I started to actually believe them.

From mantra to print — I created what I needed

I'm a designer. So naturally, when something moves me, I want to make it into something I can see every day.

I turned the words into a print. Bold. Graphic. Large-scale typography that stops you in a hallway and makes you feel something before you've even had your morning coffee. I printed it large and hung it in my home. And every single morning, walking past it, I felt a little bit better.

I thought it might help others too. So I put it in the shop. The first version was sold in support of the NHS during the pandemic. They went quickly.

Then it moved off the walls and onto people

A print you can walk past every morning is one thing. But what about the days when you leave the house and the dark cloud follows you?

That's when I developed the apparel range.

The Everything Will Be OK sweatshirt and tee have become the pieces I reach for on the hard days. I wear mine on the plane. Every single time. I'm not entirely sure it keeps the plane in the air but I'm not willing to test that theory.

There's something genuinely grounding about wearing words you believe in. You carry the reminder with you. You see it in the mirror. Someone in the supermarket reads it and smiles at you.

And then the kids wanted one too

So I made a kids version — and they absolutely loved wearing them.

(The kids range isn't currently on the shop but it's very much on the to-do list to bring back again - we had supplier issues. But watch this space.

The print that ended up at Chelsea Flower Show

There it is. My print. At Chelsea Flower Show. I still can't quite believe it.

Garden designer James Smith (jamessmith-design.co.uk) got in touch. He was designing a balcony garden for the Chelsea Flower Show and wanted to feature the Everything Will Be OK design as part of it. The problem was that a standard paper print isn't exactly weatherproof.

So we collaborated on something new: a weatherproof outdoor version of the print. Designed to live outside. To withstand rain, sun, all of it, and still look beautiful.

Then Yard Art came calling

That Chelsea collaboration planted a seed. If this design could live in a show garden, it could live in anyone's garden.

Yard Art UK (yardartuk.co.uk) reached out and we started working together properly. They produce beautiful weatherproof outdoor artwork and they wanted to bring the Everything Will Be OK design to their range.

We didn't stop at one design. We developed a whole range of weatherproof outdoor art together — bold, graphic, designed to look as good outside as the best indoor prints look inside. Designs that can live on a garden wall, a balcony, a fence, anywhere you want a little colour and a little meaning.

The design in the wild

Five years on and these four words have ended up in places I never imagined. On walls in hundreds of homes. In a Chelsea show garden. In outdoor spaces across the country. On beaches. By pools. In kitchens. On kids.

Every time someone sends me a photo of this design in their home, their garden, on their body, I feel it. I made something that people needed. That they still need.

That's not something I take lightly.

The colour range

The design comes in a range of colourways — from the original bold black and white to the rainbow version that started as the pandemic design and became something everyone wanted.

Whether you're a maximalist who wants the full rainbow or a minimalist who wants the monochrome, there's a version for you.

A quote I keep coming back to

"Staying positive doesn't mean everything will turn out ok. Rather, it means you will be ok, no matter how things turn out."

That's it, really. That's the whole thing.

Everything will be ok.
